E-Z Silverbrite & Jewelrybrite Cleaning
Tips
-
To condition the plate for the first time scrub it
with a SOS pad or Scotch Brite pad and detergent, then rinse with hot
water. Place the plate in a container of hot tap water and add the
activator, 1 teaspoon per quart of water.
-
Just one point of what your are cleaning must touch
one of the items being cleaned by the plate.
-
If an item that you are cleaning is too large to be
covered with water, rotate slowly, do not pull across the plate, lift and
turn the item. For extremely large pieces, use a pail, your bathtub, or
even a plastic bag, if necessary.
-
Silverbrite cleans between the links of bracelets
and necklaces, even behind the stones in jewelry. The cleaning action is
electrolytic and guaranteed not to damage the piece being cleaned, as
abrasive cleaners do. Silverbrite will not loosen stone settings as some
sonic cleaners may.
-
As the special alloy metal is designed only to
remove normal tarnish, your first cleaning may require a little extra
effort. If there is an oily film, it will trap the tarnish in. If this
occurs, wash the item in hot soapy water first. Use a soft brush to clean
tarnish and old cleaner residue from crevices. A cut-off natural bristle
paint brush works great, or a toothbrush.
-
Heavily tarnished items, with build up of old metal
cleaner, may require repeating the three step cleaning process. Wash in
sudsy water and dry several times.
-
If the build-up of old cleaner is severe, you may
need to use E-Z Shine metal cleaner and remove the chemical that is
ingrained into the item from previous cleaning. The follow up cleaning
with Silverbrite will then only take a few seconds.
-
Opals, pearls, or animalized jewelry and weighted
pieces such as brass and copper, should only be cleaned when water is
warm, not hot.
-
Silverbrite will not clean triple plate, quadruple
plate, pewter, or metals such as nickel, tin, lead, zinc, copper, and
brass containing more than 30% zinc. Test your brass and copper by
touching a small corner to the plate. If it turns dark, the zinc content
is too high. Darkened areas can be cleaned with E-Z Shine. Be sure to wipe
with a firm grip as darkening may just be a buildup of old cleaner. Copper
and brass cleaners leave a buildup of hard-to remove oils.
-
Before reusing your plate, clean it with an SOS pad
or Scotchbrite Pad.
-
REMEMBER: This product is a tarnish remover
only. There are no detergents or degreasers involved so your items must be
free of grease, smoke, etc.
-
If the item to be cleaned has lacquer on it you must
remove the lacquer with a paint remover to obtain the desired results.
-
Additional activator may be purchased from E-Z Way
Refinishing Products. The activator is also contained in powdered Calgon
Water Softener, Arm & Hammer super Washing Soda (not baking soda), or
White King Water Softener. These will require using 2 tablespoons per
quart of hot tap water.
-
To clean jewelry, place the small Jewelry Brite
plate in a cup of hot water (except as explained above), add a pinch of activator, leave for 10-30 seconds, rinse, dry and wear.
